"SPELLFORCE(tm): THE ORDER OF DAWN" SHIPS TO RETAIL

RTS/RPG Hybrid on Its Way to Stores

Los Angeles - Feb. 10, 2004 - Encore, a majority-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation (NASDAQ: NAVR) and JoWooD, an Austrian game publisher and developer, today announced that "SpellForce(tm): The Order of Dawn" has begun shipping to retail stores in North America.

Developed by Phenomic, "SpellForce" has enjoyed successful sales and critical acclaim in the European gamer press in 2003, receiving awards from such prestigious outlets as PC Action, PC Games and Gamestar. "We're extremely proud and excited to introduce 'SpellForce' to North America," said Michael Bell, Encore's CEO. "Both Phenomic and our partner JoWooD have provided a fun and unique product that gamers should really enjoy." "'SpellForce' is further proof to our strategy to develop high quality and fun to play games for all major markets," Andreas Tobler, CEO JoWooD added.

Against the backdrop of an incredible fantasy world, "SpellForce" combines the action and tactics of an RTS (real-time strategy) game with the immersion and character development of an RPG (role-playing game) into one epic adventure. Players assume the role of a Rune Warrior - a human "damned to immortality, and bound to the power of the blood runes," a human whose destiny is to unite the races of a splintered world against demons, the undead, and a rising evil, dark and elemental in nature. Through their avatar, players will be able to build bases, create units and manage armies, just like in an RTS.

Player avatars will also benefit from a full RPG-style character development system, complete with inventory items, as well as upgradeable skills and over 100 unique spells. Using either a top down isometric view or third person view to control your avatar, these skills and spells can be used throughout the game to heal forces, summon elemental characters or confuse the enemy. Players can expect to encounter over 100 different enemy types, from cowardly goblins to monstrous demons, dragons and powerful giants. In addition to the epic single player campaign, "SpellForce" also supports multiplayer via LAN and Internet for up to eight players

"SpellForce: The Order of Dawn" is published for Windows(r) PC, and should arrive on store shelves by the end of this week at a suggested retail price of $49.99. The game is rated "T" (for Teen) by the ESRB. For more information on the game, visit the website at www.SpellForce.JoWooD.com.

[PC] Sonalysts' Brings "Dangerous Waters" to PC - posted by Erich Becker at 2:26 pm CDT

Sonalysts' Combat Simulations - "Dangerous Waters" Poised to Break Through Dormant Simulation Genre

Acclaimed developer launches new simulations brand and naval game

WATERFORD, CT - February 11, 2004 - Sonalysts Inc., an established developer of modern naval warfare games, revealed new screenshots and in-game movie of the inaugural title to their Sonalysts' Combat Simulations brand. Dubbed "Dangerous Waters" (S.C.S - "Dangerous Waters"), this ground-breaking title will allow the player total first person control over seven of the world's most potent air, surface and subsurface naval platforms:

-- Oliver Hazard Perry [Guided Missile Frigate]
-- MH-60R Seahawk [Anti-Submarine Helicopter]
-- P-3C Orion [Maritime Patrol Aircraft]
-- Kilo class 636/877 [Diesel attack submarine]
-- Seawolf class SSN [Nuclear attack submarine]
-- Akula I/II class SSN [Nuclear attack submarine]
-- 688(I) class SSN [Nuclear attack submarine]

Each platform will feature 3D graphics and Sonalysts' trademark: authentic modeling of sensor performance and sonar characteristics, both in the air and through the ocean environment. Ships, planes, helicopters, and submarines in Dangerous Waters will possess realistic flight characteristics, buoyancy, air resistance, weather effects, ship control, and maneuvering. Each ship will have multiple action stations that must be cleared by the US Dept. of Defense before commercial release.

Players will compete in two distinct campaigns. Their actions and decisions will have a profound effect on the missions that follow. The use of dynamic elements such as probability of inclusion, dynamic inclusion of mission goals, and rules of engagement that can change mid-mission all ensure that the campaigns with never play the same way twice.

On, above, and below the ocean's surface, S.C.S. - "Dangerous Waters" will thrust the player into a fast-paced blue water battle and allow them to experience all facets of naval combat in one immersive gaming experience. Players may command a platform on their own in multiplayer or collaborate with multiple players in "Multi-station Mode" as they each operate individual stations and strive to work together as a team on the same platform, a first in naval simulations. The simulation genre has been quiet lately--Dangerous Waters will change that in a big way.

Sonalysts Combat Simulations - "Dangerous Waters" is due to ship in Q2 2004 for PC.

[PC] SOE to Require "EverQuest" Players to use DirectX9 - posted by Erich Becker at 2:49 pm CDT

Editor's Note: We are a bit late reporting on this one, but I just found the press release buried in my inbox.

Sony Online Entertainment has exciting news for all EverQuest players. As the world of Norrath evolves and expands, so too does the technology powering EverQuest. Sony Online Entertainment is making significant upgrades to the EverQuest engine which will allow SOE to provide players with the great game, but on a much more stable and efficient platform. SOE anticipates patching in the new engine sometime during the next month or two.

Part of this change will result in the need for all EverQuest players to upgrade to DirectX 9 (DX9), the latest version of Microsoft's 3D software. As best as SOE can determine, a very small percentage of our current EverQuest player base (less than 1%) may find that their older video cards are not compliant with DX9. To find out if a video card is DX9 compliant, players should check with the manufacturer of their card (video drivers may need to be updated as well). Players can also consult the EverQuest tech page on Sony Online Entertainment's website, located at http://eqlive.station.sony.com/support/tech_support.jsp.

Sony Online Entertainment is very concerned that even a small number of our players may have issues running EverQuest. To address this, SOE has worked out a deal with NVIDIA and eVGA.com to provide current EQ players access to discounts on a number of newer video cards that are DX9 compliant. eVGA.com will be offering EQ players discounts on several PC video cards that utilize Nvidia technology, from the affordable GeForce FX 5600XT all the way up to the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra. Current EverQuest players can go to http://www.evga.com/eq/ to take advantage of this special offer.

[PC] Half-Life 2 Release Date, Finally? - posted by Erich Becker at 1:07 pm CDT

CNN Money posted a column today that details the new "summer 2004" release date of Valve's highly anticipated Half-Life 2, a game that has gone through a number of delays, one involving a "break-in" into the company, via computer, and the theft of the game's source code. If you would like you can view the article right here.

Half-Life 2 was originally scheduled to be released September 30, 2003, but after Valve confirmed the theft of the source code, which has apparently been used to make a playable, bootleg edition in Russia, the game's publisher VU Games threw out an April 2004 release date.

While no firm re-statement of a date has ever been announced since the public acknowledgement of the theft last fall, many suspected that the code was leaked onto the internet and then gave Valve a reason to delay the game into this year without the backlash from gamer's who still play the original game and its mod offshoots included Counter-strike and Team Fortress Classic (TFC).

Valve is not one to shy from delaying games into the next decade. Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms (PC) has been in development for more than half a decade with no firm release date, no recent screens or videos, no news about the title in what seems like years. Many in the gaming community believe the game has been cancelled, or was cancelled long ago and will make an appearence as a mod for HL2 (if that's ever released).

[PC] No Official Vampire Date, Yet - posted by Erich Becker at 12:59 pm CDT

CNN Money has posted a story about the upcoming "summer release" of Valve's Half-Life 2 (a game delayed by a "break-in" last year relating to its source code). The article also makes mention of another game using HL2 technology, Activision's Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. It should be noted that the "Spring 2005" release date giving in the article is NOT AN OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE. So those heading to message boards hoping you have something to look forward to in 2005 should stop now before a full-fledged "megaton-like" rumor gets started.

An official relese date has not yet been set by Activision for Vampire.

[Industry] Ubisoft Making Money in Quarter 3 - posted by Erich Becker at 12:55 pm CDT

Ubisoft announced its third quarter sales today at $196 million dollars, up 29.3%.

Sales were impacted by the delay of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for the PlayStation2 and GameCube, while the Xbox, PC, and GBA versions will debut in March of this year. Also impacting sales was the lower than expected sell through of XIII and Beyond Good and Evil (which can be had for $20 bucks at most retailers).

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six 3 were shinning spots in the companies sales, each picking up multiple awards from the press.

This year Ubisoft will release the highly anticipated Far Cry (PC) and the aforementioned Pandora Tomorrow.

“In 2003, Ubisoft posted more growth than any other company and was the 7th largest independent publisher in the United States4. It also confirmed its strong position in Europe. Today, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time™ is a resounding success for our group; a sequel to this hit is already being planned with an improved marketing positioning. We have learned from the launches of Beyond Good and Evil™ and XIII, two new brands launched in a very competitive market dominated by established brands. In 2004, we will pursue our growth strategy with the launch of sequels to our top brands and of new top quality creations aimed et a large audience. In order to speed up our creations on the next generation consoles and to strengthen our production capacity, we will strongly increase our Chinese and Canadian studios, the creative talents of which have been well proven. 2004 will therefore be a growth year for the industry and for Ubisoft – off to an impressive start thanks to Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell™: Pandora Tomorrow,” stated Yves Guillemot, Chairman of Ubisoft Entertainment.

[PC] New Starfury Patch Available - posted by Erich Becker at 3:06 pm CDT

Starfury: Refitted and ready to leave spacedock!
Latest patch adds several new features!

Cary, NC, 27 January 2004

Shrapnel Games and Malfador Machinations would like to announce that Space Empires: Starfury has undergone another refit, resulting in a new patch. This latest patch brings Starfury up to version 1.15 and is available for download at http://www.shrapnelgames.com/malfador/Starfury/6.htm

The first patch brought Starfury to version 1.08, and in between that patch and this current patch there were a number of bugs squashed, and elements of the game enhanced.

Additionally, several new features were added to the game, three of which are worth examining in detail.

By far one of the most interesting new features of Starfury is the fact that the CD is no longer needed to play the game. This is perfect for the gamer with the desk that looks like the aftermath of the Hiroshima bomb. No more searching through stacks of CDs when you have that desire to see new stars, meet exotic new species, and then blow their starships into atomic particles.

Two features that have often been requested by fans of the game are also now officially part of Space Empire: Starfury. The first feature adds an inner-system waypoint to make navigation in the systems somewhat easier. The second feature adds a visual reference to off-screen starships, similar to the idea of a padlock in a flight sim, and allows the player to have full situational awareness.

Space Empires: Starfury is the latest entry in Space Empires; Malfador Machinations' award-winning line of galactic conquest games. Unlike previous games in the series Starfury puts the player into the captain's chair, as opposed to supreme planetary ruler.

As a starship captain the players are free to explore the Space Empires universe and experience it from a perspective never before seen.

Like all Malfador Machinations products, Space Empires: Starfury is extremely mod friendly, allowing users to customize the game as they see fit, such as adding a Miranda light cruiser from the Star Trek universe into the game (http://www.staryards.com/Downloads/Ships/Federation/2_TMP/Miranda/Miranda.htm). The degree of customization means that Starfury is a game that can easily last on a hard drive for years to come.

http://www.strategyfirst.com/beta/

The year is 2010 and the Major Powers of the world as we currently know them have disintegrated into bickering economic and military regions. The United Nations has disappeared, and in its place an organization with far sharper teeth referred to simply as "The World Market" has taken its place.
Individual Regions are left to fight for power to dominate their neighbors, their countries, their continents, and then the world.

Supreme Ruler 2010 represents the next generation of strategy game. Not another build and attack 'click fest', but a challenging simulation of political and military leadership. You control the agenda of your region as you maintain its economy, grow the support of your population, and strive to influence your neighbors. Through skilled management your influence and popularity will grow.... Will you be a successful diplomat, who can increase your power through an incredibly flexible diplomacy model, or will you be a ruthless and ambitious ruler that lets your tanks and missiles speak for you?

SUPREME RULER 2010 FEATURES

- Revolutionary campaign system, featuring over 40 game scenarios and over 200 possible starting regions from virtually anywhere in the world
- Sophisticated Military Strategy and Tactical Command System where you can control battalions directly or give them autonomy by handing control to your military leaders (AI)
- Resource Realism - Not a "Chop Trees / Mine Gold" simplicity but instead the ability to control the manufacturing, consumption, and export of 11 key commodities
- Hundreds of detailed and accurate Military Units to control - from Battalion to Division (Reviewed by active US Military Personnel and Consultants to Foreign Militaries)
- Economic and Political Model - An incredibly detailed yet easy to manage model with AI Cabinet Ministers that have selectable personalities
- "Real Time" or "Turn Based" modes for different play styles
- Flexible Diplomatic Interface that leaves everything on the table during negotiations
- Powerful system of "Advisors" to avoid unwanted micro-managing
- Comprehensive and realistic Technology Tree

The good guys over at TechSpot have reviewed the latest speakers from Videologic, the ZXR-750s. Here is a snippet from the review and a link:

"Videologic’s ZXR-750s are touted as the 'World’s First Integrated 7.1 Speaker System', which as far as I know they were until recently that Creative released a newer Inspire system to couple with their 7.1 soundcards, however, what’s even more attractive about the ZXR-750 is that it’s not meant to break the bank but is offered at a very affordable price. Featuring ConnX.1 and SurFE, the ZXR’s can also up-mix 5.1/6.1 input to 7.1 channels."

More will be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in May.
