[Community]Games Xtreme Reviews Hitman 2 (XBox) - posted by Erich Becker at 2:10 pm CDT

Games Xtreme have put up their Hitman 2 Silent Assassin Review.

"So to give you a nice summary here, Hitman 2 is everything that Hitman 1 should have been and more, with bigger and better missions. With improved AI and stealth options, a shedload of guns – more than a national armoury to be honest and a storyline that will keep you playing. It has better graphics and textures than the prior game and adds the goodness of 1st person to the mix, it also comes packed with a variety of useful in-mission tricks to off your targets, a seriously cool number of ways to complete the level and the double-barrelled action of Agent 47 himself. You owe it to yourself to experience the next chapter in the ongoing saga of 47…step into those shoes, stretch that wire and remember to keep it clean, and keep it professional."

[Community] RedHat 8.0 Review - posted by Erich Becker at 10:48 am CDT

Any serious gamer who wants to run their own server will most likely be looking at a linux box to keep that server running smoothly. Gaming in 3D has put together a small review of the latest from RedHat in the form of a RedHat 8.0 Review. Take a look!

"I was first introduced to the Linux operating system almost a year ago. I don't think I first tried it because I wanted something new. I didn't really even hate Windows as a product. No, I made the switch as a matter of principle. How dare MS charge $500 (Canadian) for an operating system? I have to pay $500 dollars just to use my computer? I already paid a grand for it, now I have to buy Windows before I can even use it? That's just not fair."

It's never been better than this for Bay Area sports fans. The San Francisco Giants continue their run to a possible berth in the World Series and the San Francisco 49ers continue their winning ways with a 20-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on "NFL Fever on Monday Night."

Microsoft announced the results of week six of "NFL Fever on Monday Night." "NFL Fever on Monday Night" is a simulated highlight reel, game summary and statistics which appear every Friday on www.xbox.com previewing the upcoming Monday Night game. All games are played in incredibly realistic replicas of NFL stadiums, using Microsoft Game Studios' "NFL Fever 2003" for Xbox.

San Francisco and Seattle swapped leads five times before Jeff Garcia hit Eric Johnson with a 5-yard strike late in the fourth quarter to put the 49ers up for good 20-13. Seahawks all-pro running back Shaun Alexander scored twice and gained 88 all-purpose yards. This week's Player-of-the-Game was Garcia who finished 19 of 25 for 210 yards and two touchdowns. The win moved San Francisco to 4-1 on the season, as they remain in first place in the NFC West. The Seahawks fell to 1-4 on the season.

Last week, "NFL Fever 2003" correctly picked the Green Bay Packers over the Chicago Bears in the NFC North's premier rivalry. The prediction improved "NFL Fever on Monday Night's" record to 3-2 this season and 20-9 all-time.

To see this week's simulated highlight reel, game summary and statistics visit www.xbox.com .
Be sure to check back in Week Seven when "NFL Fever 2003" cover athlete Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts travel to Heinz Field to take on Coach Bill Cowher's Pittsburgh Steelers.

[Community] ThrustWorld Posts 'Moaning About Dying' Editorial - posted by Andy Grieser at 5:46 am CDT

ThrustWorld has posted an editorial entitled "Moaning about dying? Ban this sick filth!"

Here's a quote:

"The arrogance is quite astounding. Audacious questions are asked, coupled with accusing statements. Answers are of course expected, as silence only ‘proves’ that the player in question is guilty of all charges, and of course not answering is arrogance. Naturally. The accuser uses venomous replies from the recipient to reaffirm suspicions, or to back up a flim-flam argument that holds no water. He or she automatically assumes the right to brand you as a hacker despite playing the game for roughly, ooh, ten minutes. Don't forget you're not allowed to use any gun available to you. Using AWP is lame. Waiting for someone to come round a corner is lame. Throwing grenades is lame."

[Music] Demand for Alice Soundtrack Swells into October - posted by Erich Becker at 8:44 am CDT

For the second year in a row, CHRIS VRENNA’s dark soundtrack CD to American McGee’s Alice (Electronic Arts) is seeing a surge in sales and demand for the Halloween season. The creepy and chilling original game soundtrack is suddenly hot again, even though the video game was released almost two years ago.

CHRIS VRENNA, the composer of the soundtrack, is best known as a former founding member of the band NINE INCH NAILS. Vrenna has also been a producer / collaborator / remixer for artists including U2, P.O.D., MARILYN MANSON, ROB ZOMBIE, COLD and WEEZER among others.

“I love video game soundtracks”, says Vrenna, “they are incredibly challenging to compose, since you are basically making music that needs to be compelling enough for people to enjoy even after playing a game 1,000 times but also not be so out of control that it is distracting to the player”.

Jeff Antebi of Kabuki Digital, the record label for Alice, says of the phenomenon “People who played the game are remembering the music and suddenly want the music for their haunted house…or some other strange use I don’t want to know about. It’s looking like it will be a cult classic…which would be unusual for a video game soundtrack, but it does seem to transcend the genre. It’s a great word-of-mouth thing among people who are into haunting, dark music”.

Vrenna is currently composing the soundtrack to an upcoming Inevitable Entertainment (inevitable.com) video game, but more details cannot be revealed until 2003. Additionally, Vrenna collaborated on a track with MESMER on the upcoming video game soundtrack for Toxic Grind (THQ).

The movie version of American McGee’s Alice is currently in production with horror master WES CRAVEN at the helm (Dimension / Miramax).

Ubi Soft and Cyan Worlds, Inc. extend partnership
to cover the Myst® franchise through 2008

San Francisco, CA – October 8, 2002 – Ubi Soft® Entertainment, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced today an agreement to extend its partnership with Cyan Worlds, Inc. to develop and publish new games for the Myst® franchise through 2008. The deal ensures that Rand Miller, co-creator of Myst and founder of Cyan Worlds, Inc., will continue to play a central role in helping Ubi Soft develop the Myst series. It also furthers Ubi Soft’s ability to produce and market games for a wide audience.

“Since its first release in 1993, Myst has become one of the best-selling video games of all time. Ubi Soft continues to build on this success and has recently expanded the brand to new generation consoles,” said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubi Soft Entertainment. “By renewing our partnership with Cyan Worlds, Inc., we demonstrate our long-term commitment to one of the world’s leading video game brands. Working hand in hand with Cyan Worlds, Inc., we plan to continue to surprise and delight fans of the Myst series of games for years to come.”

Myst’s diverse fan base is comprised of men and women of all age groups. With their lush cinematic environments and beautifully orchestrated, original sound tracks, Myst and its sequels Riven® and Myst® III: Exile are among the strongest titles in Ubi Soft’s catalog of games. This release builds on an established and critically acclaimed gaming experience which was established eight months ago. Since then the subscriber base has dramatically increased and with the release of v2.0 this is sure to continue with the introduction of a third race, the Spawn; a fearsome and rapacious alien species who bring another dimension to the tactical melting pot. Additionally version 2.0 includes a whole host of new in-games features and refinements.

In Codo Technologies’ quest to make the game as user friendly as possible, new unsubscribed players can now initiate up to three games which will pit them against one of our hand-picked online "field instructors" who will help them through the first few games offering guidance and advice.
