[PC] Vulcan Software Unveils Hybrid on Mother3D Engine - posted by Erich Becker at 1:48 pm CDT

Vulcan's Mother Gives Birth To Hybrid

Vulcan Software has unveiled details of Hybrid, a brand new First Person Shooter currently in development for the PC platform. Hybrid is Vulcan's first game to be entirely developed using their Mother3D engine, and benefits from an impressive array of engine features, which include advanced physics, complex AI, and fully interactive environments. Vulcan has spent the last four years developing Mother, along with their digital distribution software the Vulcan Portal and PC conversions of their back catalogue.

"We are very excited about the development of Hybrid", said Vulcan director Paul Carrington, "Having invested heavily in our own 3D technology, we are anxious to show the world a new breed of FPS, in which stunning 3D visuals provide more than a mere backdrop to the game-play by offering extensive interactive possibilities. There will be countless ways to kill, evade or fool the enemy characters, who possess AI systems that allow them to use the interactivity of the environments to their own advantage."

About Hybrid

Hybrid is a real-time 3D First Person Shooter, set in a technologically rich future and spanning three unique space-themed locations, ranging from the cargo ship Navasota, to the hostile surroundings of the Neptunian moon Nereid. Hybrid takes elements of it's dark atmosphere from some of the best loved cult science-fiction movies and stories of our time, and presents the player with a level of detail to game-play, environments and characters that are designed to be both compelling and terrifying for their believability. The player, equipped with a wealth of firepower must embark on a single-handed assault on the alien hybrid race that has killed both the crew of the Navasota and the occupants of the research and mining facility on the moons surface.

The Hybrid website has just been launched and contains initial details and specifications of the game, there will be regular updates to the site as development progresses.

[PC] EA to Publish Lionhead's Black & White 2 - posted by Erich Becker at 2:15 pm CDT

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 13, 2003 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Lionhead Studios once again join forces to ask the question of whether you are an evil or benevolent deity. From the creative mind of industry icon, Peter Molyneux, Black & White 2 for the PC promises to deliver yet another revolutionary Role Playing God game experience. Currently under development, the PC-based title is the true sequel to the highly-acclaimed original PC title, Black & White which was released more than two years ago.

"Our relationship with EA spans many years and products including the huge commercial and critical success of Black & White," said Peter Molyneux, Managing Director of Lionhead Studios. "The fresh approach of EA, coupled with our own dedication and determination to make Black & White 2 a truly epic game should result in an unbeatable formula."

A New World… A Sign of the Times
As the player begins Black & White 2, it is revealed that the world of Eden is now at war, immediately posing a question to the player. Will he choose to create and command large armies to dominate, conquer and encourage this world at war? Or will the player choose to protect and nurture his empire, turning villages and towns into cities protected by their godly powers.

The various tribes have the power to build huge fortresses around their settlements, and to gather large armies to defend their fortresses from opposing warriors or creatures from rival gods. Fiercely protective, the tribes will defend their settlements to the death.

Like its predecessor, Black & White 2 focuses on moral choices. More over, the game's center is built on one of the most innovative AI systems in computer games*, which can support an almost infinite number of experiences and player persona. Every action and inaction prompts obvious changes to buildings, flora and/or fauna all morphing to reflect the player's personality. Creature AI has also advanced in this game. The breathtaking 3D world is more highly developed with new weapons, technology and smarter creatures who can learn strategies and master new abilities and skills. Creatures will also have the ability to command armies, and be the "ultimate" unit.

Black & White 2 touts other fresh elements as well, such as improved graphics and miracle effects including rivers of fire and devastating earthquakes which rip the terrain apart. Weather systems bring on different climates such as the deserts of Egypt and the wet, snow-capped Norse mountains, each impacting the game in its own way. In addition, players will be able to tap resources and disciples, meeting different tribes that range from the Japanese to the Aztecs. The ability to create magnificent cities with new buildings and landmarks, and the ability to construct walls to defend your people and the option to command huge armies means that Black & White 2 will be an epic experience in every sense of the word.

"The agreement is a potent mix," said Tom Frisina, Vice President of EA Distribution. "EA's global marketing and distribution muscle and Lionhead Studios' top quality game development capabilities will combine to make Black & White 2 one of the most anticipated games."

Black & White 2, sequel to the award-winning Black & White, is being developed by UK-based Lionhead Studios and will be co-published by EA and Lionhead Studios. The release date for this title has not been set. More information can be found at www.bwgame.com and also www.info.ea.com.

We invite you to guide Sam Fisher through a Georgian warehouse, find cyber-terrorist Philip Masse's computer terminal and steal a sample code. Just don't get caught. Stardock Central is a program that consolidates software updates, message boards, chat, documentation updates, and more into a single easy-to-use program.

"With Stardock Central, Galactic Civilizations players will be able to get seamless updates to the game. It's not just convenient for users; it's great for us developers. For example, I can be reading the message boards and chat and if someone has a good suggestion, we can put that suggestion in and copy it to a network directory here at Stardock and then it shows up as an alpha on Stardock Central. Users can then try out the alpha and eventually it'll get promoted to being a "Beta" and eventually made generally available once enough people have tried it out. It greatly shortens the time and effort between a user making a suggestion and a user seeing that suggestion implemented," said Brad Wardell, Project Manager of Galactic Civilizations.

When users download Stardock Central, they can enter the Galactic Civilizations serial number and an account will be created for them on Stardock Central that not only gives them instant access to updates but to the entire game itself. If the player loses their CD or damages it, they can retrieve the entire game electronically via Stardock Central by simply entering their CD key.

Each serial number is tied to the individual user and validation occurs on the server (as opposed to the client), so not only do players receive much greater free support than previously possible but piracy should be greatly reduced as the system can detect anomalous account usage.

Cary, NC, March 11, 2003

Shrapnel Games announced today that the release date for Interstellar Trader 2 has been moved to March 21st. For more information about Interstellar Trader 2 visit Shrapnel Games website at www.shrapnelgames.com.

Tim Brooks, President of Shrapnel Games, said, "We have had a slight delay in the release of Interstellar Trader 2. This is one of those mix- ups that could have been avoided, but unfortunately wasn't. We know there are a lot of fans waiting for this game, and I personally want to apologize for the delay."

Interstellar Trader 2 is the sequel to the original strategy simulation Interstellar Trader (available in the Thunder Pack Platinum four pack available from Shrapnel Games) where you become the owner of a start-up merchant business in outer space. You do this by traveling from planet to planet in the galaxy, buying and selling items in the various marketplaces. Just look at what this game has to offer:

- Improved, more realistic economic engine, with a randomly generated supply/demand system for the galaxy every time you play. Item prices change constantly during the game, so you have to keep on your toes. More items available for trade at each planet.
- Now 10 planets to visit, instead of 6! Each planet can even have individual modifiers to its economic condition.
- You can choose your ship, upgrade its gas tank, cargo capacity, and even add NEW unique weapons to it to fight the nasty Pirates. Ships also now have Durability ratings, and wear down over time.
- 4 Different pirate clans have different combat strengths and priorities as far as taking money or items from you if they win.
- Pick up passengers, collect fares, buy toll booths to the various planets and get paid for each visitor to the planet.
- Visit the prime minister of each planet for various benefits, purchase Pirate contracts for a temporary peace time.
- Purchase and build your own fleet of escort ships from 3 different choices to assist you in fighting the Pirates.
- NEW IMPROVED combat engine, with more realistic outcomes and more direct choices for the player to make, including self-destructing your ships to use as weapons, new Luck modifiers, using the Suicide Volley weapon on your ship for damage multipliers, and using your installed weapons against the Pirates.
- NEW Special encounters: Play games at the Galactic Casino to win credits, make deals with Rogue Merchants from other galaxies on rare items, and more random events than before!
_ And much more

Interstellar Trader 2 retails for $19.95 and is available for pre release ordering from Shrapnel Games' e-Store, the Gamers Front (www.gamersfront.com). The demo can be downloaded from the Shrapnel Games website at www.shrapnelgames.com.
