The game is currently under development for PC and Xbox(tm) video game system from Microsoft, and will ship late summer and fall 2002, respectively.

Battlefield 1942 puts players at the heart of World War II combat, allowing them to choose from 16 famous battle sites, including Omaha Beach, Stalingrad and Wake Island, from the four main theaters of World War II including the Pacific, Eastern and Western Europe and Northern Africa. [PC] Aliens vs. Predator 2: Primal Hunt (PC) Announced - posted by Erich Becker at 8:52 am CDT

THE SAGA BEGINS WITH PRIMAL HUNT
Sierra Entertainment and Fox Interactive Announce
Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt Expansion Pack

Los Angeles, CA - April 8, 2002 - The saga continues as Sierra Entertainment(tm) and Fox Interactive(tm) announced today the development of the Aliens versus Predator( 2: Primal Hunt expansion pack. Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt continues the nail-biting terror and suspense from the award-winning Aliens versus Predator( 2. With all new single-player and multi-player levels, weapons, and new player characters, this original interlocking story is an all out battle of three of the deadliest species in the universe as the Aliens versus Predator 2 saga begins.

Primal Hunt, developed by Third Law Interactive, has the Predalien and Predator stories moving back 500 years prior to the events of Aliens versus Predator 2. Before the humans set up the research facility on Planet LV1201, Predators frequented the planet for the sole purpose to hunt Aliens. On a routine hunt, a Predator stumbles upon ancient Pilot ruins and discovers an Artifact of great power that, as legend has it, controls Aliens and keeps them at bay. That same fateful day an accident causes our hero Predator to become trapped in a stasis field. 500 years later, he is discovered and inadvertently revived by a human named Dunya who is trying to retrieve the Artifact for the mercenaries she works for. As the Predator secretly follows her back to base, he unknowingly allows Aliens access to the human facilities. While the Aliens wreak havoc, a lone Predalien searches out the Artifact to try to destroy it before it becomes active again.

As this terrifying story begins to unfold, players become one of the three heroic and deadly characters that are all fully prepared to do what it takes to take ownership of this powerful and sought after artifact. Choose to play as the Predator that becomes trapped in stasis only to awaken 500 years later, the human corporate mercenary, Dunya, or as the Predalien, a twisted hybrid of Alien and Predator.

Other Key Features of Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt
* Nine new single player levels (3 per species)
* Intense multi-player combat - includes 4 new levels
* Includes all patches/updates and additional maps issued by Monolith since the release of AvP2.
* New species-specific weapons and combat styles
o Human - Dual Pistols, Turret Gun, Deployable Sentry Gun
o Predator - Energy Flechette, Self-Destruct (only in multiplayer)
* Two new creatures indigenous to the planet.
* New environment - never-before-seen Predator ruins
* Ties in with original story of Aliens versus Predator 2 and provides closure to some open-ended questions

"We're all thrilled to be working with the extraordinarily talented chaps at Third Law on the Primal Hunt expansion pack. The brand new set of interlocking adventures in Primal Hunt ties in perfectly with AvP2 by giving players some prior history of the events that took place and by giving them another perspective as well," said Dave Stalker, Producer, Fox Interactive. "The community has been asking for new single player levels, new characters, new weapons and new multiplayer levels...Primal Hunt delivers them all!"

Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt will be available at retail late July for a suggested retail price of $19.99. For more information, go to AvP2.sierra.com or order by phone at 800-757-7707.

[PressRelease] Strategy First and Paradox Entertainment Announce Crusader Kings (PC) - posted by Erich Becker at 10:13 am CDT

STRATEGY FIRST AND PARADOX ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE CRUSADER KINGS

Montreal, Quebec. April 9th, 2002 - Strategy First and Paradox Entertainment announced today that they will be releasing Crusader Kings, a strategy game based on the Europa Universalis engine, in Fall 2002.

'With the success of Europa Universalis I and II, we couldn't be happier to be working with Paradox again, this time on Crusader Kings, 'says Steve Wall, V.P., Business Development for Strategy First. 'Based on the Europa engine, Crusader Kings will maintain the same quality of gameplay and extend the scope of the game even further.'

"Crusader Kings adds another piece to the puzzle we started to lay with Europa Universalis. Now the amazing period of templars and dynastic empire-building will be explored with the same depth and detail. We are also pleased that Strategy First has so much confidence in our game line" says Theodore Bergquist, CEO of Paradox Entertainment.

Reenact the crusades, defend against the Mongol onslaught and form feudal nation states in Europe! Achieve victory through diplomacy, resource management and medieval warfare

Crusader Kings focuses on the feudal kingdoms of medieval Europe in the time period of 1066-1419 A.D. The game map begins in Europe stretching to the Urals in the East and including parts of Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the Coast of North Africa.

Unlike Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings is a simulation of a medieval feudal society, involving laws, commissions and religious influences. Playable nations consist of Christian monarchies, principalities and empires, from which players choose between Knight Templars, Knights of St. John, The Teutonic Order, The Order of Calatrava and The Order of Santiago. With Feudal lords and bishops that rule the various provinces, players must amass as much prestige and wealth as possible to obtain a powerful dynasty. They must defend their territory, by using the evolutionary combat system that simulates the various styles of combat, from the basic rudimentary style to the more advanced techniques of that time period. Contrary to Europa Universalis, honor and power are more important to a player than the expansion of the nation's borders.

To add to the game's longevity, the development team has added another exciting feature that provides players with the ability to save games and convert them into Europa Universalis II. With this feature, players can extend their game into the later centuries by simply exporting their files into their Europa Universalis II game.

Santa Monica, CA - April 4, 2002 - Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) readies a tour de force for PC gamers with the announcement of Star Trek® Elite Force II. In this sequel to the critically acclaimed first person action game, players resume the role of Alexander Munro, chief of the Hazard Team, Starfleet's elite security unit. Now assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-E, players will explore strange new worlds, battle against both new and familiar civilizations and go on the most dangerous assignments in the galaxy. Star Trek Elite Force II is being developed by Ritual Entertainment and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

After a brief prologue on the U.S.S. Voyager and a short stint at Starfleet Academy, the Hazard Team is assigned its toughest mission yet - duty onboard the Federation's renowned flagship, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-E. "Raven have provided us with a richly detailed look into the Starwars universe and have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of Jedi perfection, this is where the game really shines for me. I used to loathe the Quake 3 A engine, but Raven’s modifications, tweaks and bells, whistles, have really made the whole thing shine brighter than one hundred suns…They’ve taken the old style of Jedi Knight and whipped a brand new gorgeous graphics engine, sound and gameplay around it all. I can’t fault it, I could find lots of little nitpicks if I wanted to but they’re really minor ones I won’t mention."

It scored 95% and won our Editor's Choice award (huzzah!)

[PCGaming] Wolfenstein Patch Issues Addressed - posted by Erich Becker at 1:15 pm CDT

WolfMP version 1.31 was released last night. The smaller update which updates from 1.3 to 1.31 was released this afternoon. After thorough testing on the servers setup by Xian, Fred, Speakeasy and others, we decided everything was stable and ready for release! The sticking, warping and teleportation issues introduced in version 1.3 have been squashed.

Included in the patch is mp_pakmaps1.pk3, which contains the map, "Ice". The version of "Ice" that is included with version 1.31 is not compatible with the version released in 1.3, due to some bug fixes. To make the world a better place, and to get all players on the same version of the game, I'd strongly suggest everyone upgrade to 1.31.

People sticking with version 1.3 and trying to play "Ice" will not be able to do so on servers that have properly upgraded to version 1.31.

The auto-update server will be going live soon. We decided to release the full patch to the websites and popular download sites in order to spread out the bandwidth for such a large update. Future auto-updates will take place for smaller downloads, the majority of which will be code only.

The Civil War, which has served as the basis for countless books, movies, and interactive entertainment, is remembered as the most devastating war ever fought on United States soil. Wage the entire crusade from beginning to end or select battles of your choosing. You make the war what you want it to be. Rewriting history is now at your fingertips.

Single-player options include Engagements (scenarios), Foray (deathmatches), State Campaigns, and the comprehensive Civil War mode. Players create their own objectives and choose from 70+ weapons and units to supply full-scale armies.
