[Community]Athlon Heatsink Roundup @ Hardware-Unlimited - posted by Erich Becker at 12:42 pm CDT

Hardware-Unlimited, part of the 3D-Unlimited Network, has posted a 4-way Athlon heatsink roundup. The contenders include: Zalman - CNPS-6000-Cu, Titan - TTC-D5TB(TC), Titan - TTC-CU5TB, and the Vantec - CCK 6040.

Quote:
"I was very shocked to see the Zalman perform so well. I knew the heatsink had a large surface area, but fan spins just enough to keep it cool enough to almost tie with the best performing Titan CU5TB. In silent mode, the temperatures on the Zalman rose a great deal, but keep in mind this is under a full load, and normal usage would not result in such high temperatures. The Titan CU5TB took home the crown as the best performing heatsink for this roundup due to its all-copper design and its load, powerful fan. Even though it performed the best, I’d have to say the Zalman 6000-Cu would be the overall winner due to its great performance, and low noise. In fact, if you set the fan speed half way between normal and silent, you can still get top notch performance with only a few degree increase in temperatures. The Vantec CCK 6040 faired well, but did not take top honors. Keep in mind this was a pre-production sample though. "

Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project Review

See The Full Review @ Gamer's Hell

"Ah yes, there is nothing like walking down the streets of New York, enjoying the people, scenery and the sight of mutant pigs being blown to oblivion all because one man has an obsession with "makin' bacon!" Yes, that's right, everyone's favorite one-man army is back to save the world yet again, this time from the evil Morphix. This time around, though, the developers took Duke back to his roots for some good old side-scrolling action. You may think that was the wrong way to go, but continue on and you may have a change of heart."

"London racer 2 is the sequel to the game London Racer also known as m25 Racer developed by Davilex. I've got to say that I enjoyed M25 Racer more and I really think London Racer 2 is definitely not the greatest racer arcade I have played. London Racer 2 is an arcade racing game, in which you enter an illegal street race organization as a rookie. This organization sets up illegal races on the m25 and in London and Oxford. In this hierarchic organization you start in the small league, but when you're good enough, they let you enter the "Luxury sports car league" but at the end, you'll be trying to reach the ultimate league: the "GT Racer League". During the leagues, you try to go faster and faster through buying extras and power-ups for your car to tune it up."

[PressRelease] XICAT Announces Top Angler for the Nintendo GameCube - posted by Erich Becker at 2:07 pm CDT

XICAT lures gamers with “reel” fishing fun Top Angler™ to be first fishing game available for Gamecube®.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 21, 2002.) Xicat Interactive, who set the bar for flight simulator games with their popular and award winning titles Jane’s Attack Squadron and X-Plane, is an innovator in the world of interactive entertainment software publishing. Xicat has now cast their line into the fishing genre with Top Angler™ - the first fishing game for the Gamecube® console.

“Video games are the number one form of entertainment in the US ($23 Billion by 2003) and fishing is a close second. It made perfect sense to us to develop Top Angler,” says Geoffrey Mulligan, Chief Operating Officer, Xicat Interactive, who has tripled in sales over the past 6 months.

Top Angler, coming soon to Gamecube and Xbox™ (currently available on PlayStation® 2), offers gamers of all ages a fun, realistic and challenging bass fishing experience. “Our developers (SIMS) went out of their way to make it look, feel and smell like real bass fishing. SIMS has had quite a bit of experience with this genre as well; they developed the best-selling Sega® Dreamcast™ version of Sega Bass Fishing™. With life-like motion graphics, unpredictable weather patterns and some great fishing holes, the only thing missing is a six-pack,” says Geoffrey.

It’s quick to learn, yet hard to master and you don’t need to be a fishing enthusiast to enjoy this addictive, good-time game. Top Angler is packed with innovations that allow the player to always have “a good fishing trip.” Along with the many levels of play, Top Angler has a “deep” interactive tackle box with over 36 lures, real pole action/response, a zoom view feature, and an enhanced “live well” feature that shows cumulative weight, type of fish caught and lures used. It also boasts real-time scenery and weather changes as well as the split screen “fight/underwater” view.)

Xicat developed the unique split screen “fight/underwater” view, which alone makes this game a must see and a must play. The instant the fish hits the lure the view changes into the split screen mode. The player experiences the “fight” from above and below the waterline; seeing the valiant twists, turns and leaps of the fish up close on one side of the screen, while the other side reveals the player struggling with their lunker bass. “ The split screen fight/underwater view is a nice, fun touch, and an innovation we’ve not seen in the market yet,” says Mr. Mulligan, Xicat Interactive.

Xicat is planning to cast it’s Top Angler title to the masses in Q1 of 2002.

About Xicat

Xicat Interactive, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with offices in London and Zurich, is a growing innovator in the world of interactive entertainment software publishing. Xicat’s string of popular games Guns and Ammo™, Gothic™, Jane’s Attack Squadron™, and X-Plane™ can be found at Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, K-Mart, Best Buy and Electronic Boutique among others. Xicat publishes award-winning games for PlayStation®, PlayStation2®, Nintendo Game Boy® and Game Boy® Color, Sega® Dreamcast™, Microsoft® X-Box™ and personal computer platforms.

Create a Pirate Fleet for Tactical Naval Warfare in Scarlet Waves

Quebec city, Quebec, Canada - 17/06/2002 - PaGTech, a new independent game development studio, today announced its first title: Scarlet Waves. Scarlet Waves will be a turn-based strategy game in which players will create and customize their pirate fleet to fight against the computer or other players. Highlights of Scarlet Waves include:

- Play alone in "Career" mode, against your friends on one computer in "Hot Seat" or on the Internet with the "Play-by-email" mode.

The game will be distributed online with a demo version available at the same time the game is released. "With almost 500 million Internet users world-wide, it only makes sense to use the web to distribute games," said Mr Garneau.

The Themis Group to craft and implement a marketing and advertising strategy for Lyra’s Massive Multiplayer RPG Underlight®

Los Angeles, CA and Stamford, CT, June 13, 2002 – Lyra Studios, an independent developer of massive-multiplayer games, today announced that it has engaged the Themis Group, the industry’s leading provider of consulting and outsourcing solutions, to help craft and implement a marketing and advertising strategy to raise awareness for Lyra’s online role-playing game, Underlight®.

“We look forward to handing most of the marketing to The Themis Group,” said Brent Phillips, President of Lyra Studios. “This will allow us the freedom to continue to concentrate on improving the Underlight experience for our subscribers.”

Unlike many current subscription offerings, Underlight features unique mechanisms to encourage social bonding and role-playing. Under the terms of the agreement, the Themis Group will craft a marketing strategy that fits within Lyra’s vision of the game, which is that of a “role-player’s haven” in a sea of similar hack-and-slash offerings. The company will then implement that strategy to inform role-players worldwide of Lyra’s offering.

“It’s not everyday you run across a game that continually strives to provide a pure role-playing experience,” said Alex Macris, CEO of the Themis Group. “We plan to bring awareness of that experience to hardcore role-players across the Internet.”

In conjunction with these marketing efforts, Lyra Studios plans to expand the Underlight universe in the coming months with features and additions, including: more levels, more arts, more role-plays(including the introduction of a new form of evil), the addition of a new prestige rank, and the adaptation of a player-created game into the game itself.
