Today is a sad day: Hitchiker's Guide author Douglas Adams died of a heart attack in California. He was 49. IP: Logged |

I saw this earlier. I couldn't believe this happened. I actually go to meet him three years ago when he was in Atlanta for e3 there (pushing Starship Titanic). He was an amazing man, seemed very vibrant, imaginative, and dryly humorous. In essence just what you'd expect. He was also a huge man (I think I could actually look up at him, if I remember correctly), which I didn't expect. In both cases he made quite an impression, and was truly a gentleman. We lost one of the good ones this day. IP: Logged |

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. I was standing in a burger joint, buying dinner for everyone at my house, and I just stood in front of the TV they had posted up in the corner with my mouth hanging open. Douglas Adams and his writing -- inside and outside of the Hitch-Hiker's series -- was what first prompted me to want to both read and write, but even so I'm surprised at how keenly unhappy I am at all of this. This is truly sad news. He was such a terrific writer. He wrote a humorous tale like no other before him. Many have so often, and usually unsuccessfully, tried to immitate him. It is so hard to mix humor and intelligence at times, but he had a way of nailing it time and again. Enjoy your new journey Doug, don't forget your towel. IP: Logged |
