| Everquest Online Adventures: Frontiers is a substantial expansion of the PS2's first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). EQOA: Frontiers is chock full of new features, but like all MMORPGs and expansions will have some growing pains for months to come. The features have not changed significantly since my preview back in October. You can see it here.
The best thing about EQOA: Frontiers is that it gives players new and old a prettier, more in depth MMORPG with pretty of new features to keep people occupied. However, this is really a game for those who have the time and energy to give it their all. Casual play has been all but excised from the game. EQOA: Frontiers requires a fairly large commitment in time to level or obtain the game's best items. The new level cap of 60 has been burned through by the hardest of the hardcore in the couple of weeks since launch. So know what you're getting into.
The developers tried in the past to strike a happy medium between appeasing the needs of the hardcore MMORPG player and the casual audience that make up most PS2 owners. EQOA: Frontiers leaves the casual player behind. The Class Mastery system introduced with the expansion will take most players more than a year of playing to complete with one player. Most will give up long before that, I believe.
EQOA: Frontiers is a good addition to EQOA. MMORPGs are always a work in progress and EQOA: Frontiers is no different. If you're looking for an easy to learn but time-consuming and deep MMORPG, then EQOA: Frontiers is for you. |
